Kinematics of Misaligned Disks in Cosmological Simulations

Previous

This animation shows the formation and evolution of multiple disks including a mis-aligned disk from new accretion, which exchanges gravitational torques with the main disk until they align. Points show stars, contours the isophotal shape of the galaxy, and colors show the line-of-sight velocity, blueshifted or redshifted towards (away) from us relative to the galaxy center of rest.
