This directory contains the MUSIC files needed to generate the initial conditions for the FIRE-2 simulations. Specifically, what is included is the MUSIC configuration file (".conf" file) needed to generate your own initial conditions. This allows everyone to generate ICs in the format needed for your particular code, and at any resolution (you can match the FIRE-2 resolution if desired, or vary this trivially), hence should be much more useful and portable compared to the specific binaries generated for our GIZMO simulations. Any and all help or questions should be directed towards the MUSIC developers, see https://people.phys.ethz.ch/~hahn/MUSIC/ if you are not familiar with the code We also include the point position list used to construct the convex hull or ellipse in the ICs bounding the high-resolution refinement region. These should all have the corresponding simulation name in the filename, so it should be clear "which goes with which". However, we --strongly-- caution that users should generate their own ICs using this as simply a 'first pass' to target the halo in test runs before constructing their "production" ICs with their own version of the particle list. The reason is that different simulation codes, different resolutions, adding/removing baryons, making different choices about MUSIC options (order of perturbation theory, adding/removing drift, etc), will all alter the contamination of the desired high-resolution region slightly. We used different point sets at each resolution level to deal with this, and that was keeping all else exactly fixed. In fact, we down-sampled the point lists here to make them easy to download (our production runs used a Lagrangian region selected from previous high-res DM+baryonic runs, which typically meant the point list was ~1-10GB in size). So please -do not- simply generate with the included point list at any resolution and "run with it" -- rather, carefully check your halos at z=0 to ensure your particular contamination and Lagrangian volume targets are being satisfied.
