Dec 2004 - Jan 2005 The adventures of
Shu-Chen in LA (Rose Parade, hard core mountain climbing and lots of
sparks & flares off-camera). You'll need to skip the first few
pics. They're just some boring houses Caltech rents out to grad
students. Here's
everything.
Nov 28 2004 Today Claudiu came to my
place to take me on a hike. I had no clue in hell he ment a hike
on the top of Mt Wilson where there is a signifficant amount of snow.
So I thought a T-shirt will do. When we got there, at 5 degrees below
freezing a T-shirt wouldn't make me feel any warmer then no
T-shirt. The following pics tell the
rest of the story.
Nov 26 2004 I can say I've really had a
great time this thanksgiving! Today Oleg and I had a shower in the
waterfall from Eaton Canyon. It was quite chilly and I would have
thought about this twice if I knew some of the water I got myself into
melted that day. We also took great pictures of the Sunset and our
shadows [and Oleg's bald spot!! ].

Nov 15-19 2004 QCD and String Theory was
a great reason to travel to Santa Barbara. I had a great time hanging
out with physicists most of the day and getting in the Ocean during the
lunch hour, in the morning an din the evening. I parked by the beach so
swiming validates parking :). I also took some pics of me naked and wet
just in case the lifeguards have doubts. You'll also see the first
close-up I've seen of an American Strawberry farm. Plastic foils civers
everything. Starwberries are picked up by machines and there are no
weeds at all. You'll also find some pics of the Santa Barbara pier.

We saw a sea lion and told lifeguards about it. Yet they only worry about them after they stay on the beach for 48 hours. So we wrote a big "KEEP OUT" in the sand and left. A few hours later, the sea lion was back in the waves.The waves seemed 'dangerous' today and lifeguards captured Edi and me while we were swimming close to the shore. Last but not least, mom went in the water today!
Mom didn't go in the water!!
The super car did it again! We went on freeways, offroad and on steep dusty desert trails. It still works. I think I'll have to put some more glue in the transmission after the girls leave.
Snow, party, waves and ever lasting lifeguard problems - all within about 50 miles from home.
Small nursery school meeting. Still I'm such an idiot that I cannot give a talk. Not even here!
13/15-18/2002 John Archibald Wheeler's 90th birdthday
Nice conference. I went there and, shamefully, gaved no talk. He was congratulated by President Bush, the Pope and Miss America.
12/17/2001-12/18/2001 with my sis on the road
Ruxandra (Edi) camed to visit me from Champaign, Illinois. She
stayed two days + 1evening & 1 morning till 5 Am. We
rented a car and wnr on the read. Before this i drove on the fwy for 10
minutes or so. Now with almost 5 hours of experience, I'm an expert.
And in order to satisfy my selfish pleasure of driving I endangered the
life of my little sister who does not know how to drive. That's not
good.
We sent swimming at the Pacific like in the
good old times in Romania. The water was very good for
mid-December. We were the only in the water and the only ones in
swimming suites. Like in the good old times. Sunny, chilli, windy.

09/29/2001 San Gabriel Mountins
First time hiking in America. Nice country! Thanks to Disa, you can see us on a server from Iceland!
We went to see meteors on top of Mt Wilson. I took my bike to the top of the mountin and ended up going down from the top of the mountin to Pasadena at 3 AM on a tar road used only by hikers and special vehicles on a beach cruiser with no geras and only one brake. I kept seeing meteors all the way down till sunrise.
09/15/2001- America! America!
My second trip that involved flying. 1st flight from New York to the West Coast after September 11. I was supposed to fly to LA, but they only vent to San Diego. From here, a small plane flew me to LAX. Nice truip. Spend a night in NY for free at a *** hotel.
