Reduced Basis for gravitational waves

The Reduced Basis (RB) method constructs a global basis that accurately represents a set of gravitational waveforms in a given range of parameter values (like binary masses and spins) using a relatively few number of nearly optimally chosen waveforms. More technically, the RB can be viewed as an application-specific hierarchical spectral expansion in parameter space. The RB method utilizes a so-called greedy algorithm to pick the waveforms that nearly optimize, in a precise mathematical sense, the error in representing any waveform by its projection onto the basis.
