9th LISA PE telecon 13.03.2008 ================================================ Partial list of participants: Curt Cutler Alicia M Sintes B.S.Sathyaprakash Chris van den Broeck K G Arun Ed Porter Miquel Trias Han Wang Jing Zeng Emanuele Berti Jonathan Gair ========================================================= 1-Discussion on SMBH inspiral waveforms. Sathya asks for some clarifications regarding the PN waveform models used if Taylor T3 or T1, (differential equations versus explicit expressions as a function of time). He points out that T3@3PN has problems at the last stable orbit (even beyond 2 PN). It is pointed out that Stas wrote the original MLDC code with analytical expressions (and other numerics). In the future MLDC will try also other approximations. Both MLDC and this taskforce on LISA Science Performance Evaluation (by Parameter Estimation) could use different PN waveforms. Action item: provide a pointers to Sathya with the description of the waveforms used by the MLDC. Also check how the truncation of the waveform was done. Also Sathya is going to provide a list of candidates to be run using Neil's code to see which are the parameter error estimation using Neil's code ========================================================= 2- EMRIs Jonathan reported that the Fisher code is now fixed (there were numerical issues with too small step codes). He has now compared with Neil's code and the two codes agree by a factor of 2. Jonathan will write a status summary ========================================================= 3-SMBH parameter estimation for Astrophysically Motivated Source Distributions Curt has posted new results and corrected the preliminary ones posted before. He has redone all calculations using two different noise curves. So far results are for Marta's source distributions. Curt points out that Sterl Phinney has a new model with larger BH. Using Marta's models the results are pretty insensitive to the different configurations. The changes are only of a factor of 10% in parameter estimation. Emanuele asks for clarifications regarding sky position and orientation of the sources. Curt clarifies he uses a uniform distribution for the angles. Each of the files provided by Marta contains 1000 merges (more that was Lisa will see). Clearly the descoped model Curt has used has a very modest impact on these accuracies. The noise floor was only about a factor of 2 worse. Action item: Curt will continue checking more descope models. ========================================================= Next telecon: March 27th at 8:15 PDT, 11:15 EDT, 15:15 UTC, 16:15 CET Please send comments or correction to sintes (@) aei.mpg.de
