Caltech Visitors Program in the Numerical Simulation

of Gravitational Wave Sources

  •  Description of the Visitors Program

  •  Visitors Program Schedule:

  • Initial Data Problem: January 6, 2003 - May 14, 2003

Developing techniques for solving the initial value problem for astrophysically relevant initial data (including compact binaries).

  • Organizers: Bernd Bruegmann, Manuela Campanelli, Gregory Cook, and Michael Holst.

    Participants

    Seminars

  • Formulations of the Evolution Equations: September 2, 2002 - December 13, 2002

Formulating the evolution equations of general relativity in a manner that can facilitate the construction of stable numerical evolution schemes for spacetimes containing compact objects (and in particular black holes).

Organizers: Miguel Alcubierre, Bernd Bruegmann, Michael Holst, Luis Lehner, and Mark Scheel.

    Participants

    Seminars

  • Quasi-Adiabatic Evolution: June 3, 2002 - August 30, 2002

Quasi-adiabatic approximation techniques for evolving nearly circular compact binaries (binaries made of neutron stars and/or black holes).

Organizers: Thomas Baumgarte and Masaru Shibata.

    Participants

    Seminars
